In-Person Social Skills Training

At Psychological and Life Skills Associates / The Social Skills Center, we believe strong social skills are foundational to success in school, work, relationships, and everyday life. Our in-person social skills coaching gives children, teens, and adults a structured, supportive place to learn and practice the skills they need to connect with others and feel more confident in social situations. While we specialize in social and emotional development, our services also support individuals who need better communication and interpersonal skills to succeed in training programs, job training, or any type of employment program that requires strong teamwork and relationship-building.

We currently offer individual and group sessions at our offices in Oakton, Woodbridge, and Fredericksburg, Virginia, serving the broader Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metropolitan area. If you’ve been searching for a “social skills class nearby,” our center may be a great fit.

Our face-to-face social skills services provide a wealth of benefits to the clients we see, including:

Better Relationship Formation and Management

Strong social skills help you build and maintain healthy relationships. These skills are important for making friends, connecting with family members, and developing professional networks.

Our social skills training programs in Northern Virginia teach communication skills, active listening, empathy, and social awareness. Participants learn how to start conversations, build trust, and create meaningful connections with others.

Through guided practice and real-life situations, children, teens, and adults gain the tools they need to improve relationships and feel more comfortable in social settings.

Improved
Self-Confidence

Confidence can have a positive impact on every area of life. It helps you speak up, share your ideas, and participate more comfortably in social situations.

Our social skills groups help participants build self-confidence through structured activities and supportive coaching. We focus on important skills such as eye contact, body language, conversation skills, and positive communication habits.

As confidence grows, participants often feel more comfortable at school, at work, and in everyday social interactions.

Enhanced Problem Solving Skills

Challenges and disagreements are a normal part of life. Learning how to respond in a positive and productive way can improve relationships and reduce stress.

Our social skills training programs teach practical problem-solving and communication strategies. Participants learn how to understand different perspectives, manage emotions, and work through conflicts respectfully.

These skills can help children, teens, and adults make better decisions, strengthen relationships, and handle everyday challenges with greater confidence.

A Safer Space

Social situations can feel overwhelming for people who experience social anxiety or fear of rejection. Having a supportive place to learn and practice social skills can make a meaningful difference.

At the Social Skills Center, we provide a welcoming environment where children, teens, and adults can develop social skills without fear of judgment. Our social skills groups encourage positive interactions, personal growth, and peer support.

Participants gain confidence, improve communication skills, and build meaningful connections in a setting where they feel accepted, respected, and supported.

Overview of Our In-Person Services

Dr. Christopher Haley, owner of Psychological and Life Skills Associates, has helped thousands of clients develop stronger social skills over the past 20+ years. Through his unique treatment approach, he has guided children, teens, and adults in building communication skills, confidence, and meaningful relationships through both individual therapy and social skills groups.

Every new client begins with an initial consultation with one of our licensed professionals. This meeting gives us the opportunity to learn more about you or your child, discuss goals, review treatment options, and answer any questions you may have. Based on this evaluation, we will recommend either individual therapy, social skills group therapy, or a combination of both services.

If individual therapy is the best fit, we will create a personalized treatment plan and schedule follow-up sessions focused on your specific goals. If group therapy is recommended, we begin with one or two individual preparation sessions. These sessions help new members feel comfortable, understand expectations, and develop the skills needed to participate successfully in a group setting.

One of the most important parts of our program is finding the right group placement. Many social skills programs only place participants by age. We take a more effective approach by considering both age and level of functioning. This allows group members to connect more naturally, practice social skills with peers who share similar abilities, and gain greater value from the experience.

Psychological and Life Skills Associates facilitates more than 20 social skills groups each week throughout Northern Virginia. Because we offer a variety of groups, we can carefully match children, teens, and adults with the program that best meets their needs. Once the preparation sessions are complete, new members are welcomed into their assigned group. School-age children and adolescent groups are conveniently scheduled during after-school hours.

If you are searching for social skills groups in Northern Virginia, our team is here to help. Contact Dr. Haley at 703-490-0336 ext. 1 or email DrHaley@PsychLife.net to learn more about our programs and services.

We also accept select insurance plans. If we are not in-network with your provider, you may still qualify for out-of-network reimbursement benefits. Our administrative team can help you understand your options and answer any insurance-related questions. For assistance, please call 703-490-0336 ext. 0.
